How do I register?

Registration is available on the event page for each race. Transactions are completed through a trusted third party website.

Can I register a teammate?

Absolutely. We allow for teams of up to 5 people, and you can register any number of teammates up to the team maximum. When you register just select the total number of individuals that you are signing up. You will need the first name, last name, and email address for each teammate. You will also be charged for the total number of registrants in your order. If you don't feel like footing the bill for your buddy (but still want to race on the same team), each participant can register separately. By indicating your team name at check-out, your crew will end up grouped together for the race.

Can I register by myself or do I need a team?

You can register by yourself or as part of a team. If you are registering individually but want to be grouped with a particular team, simply provide the team name at check-out. If you are a free agent and flying solo, simply indicate that you are not registering as part of a team. You will be grouped with others prior to start of the race. We encourage individuals to register even if they don't have a teammate to sign up with, and we believe that the City GRACE is a fantastic way to meet fun people in your city.

How many people can be on a team?

Teams can be as small as two people, or include as many as five people.

Can WE substitute a teammate?

Yes. We understand that not everyone can make it on event day. So we are willing to substitute teammates as needed and get the right people registered. Feel free to use our contact us form or send an email to hello@thecitygrace.com if you'd like to get the roster squared away in advance of race day.

Do you offer refunds?

Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds at this time. However, we do allow for substitutions or the transfer of a registration to someone else. If you find that you are unable to attend, we ask that you notify us as soon as possible. Our races are deliberately crafted to bring benefit to local nonprofits. For most of our races, the number of participants is strategically chosen to ensure that we offer the greatest benefit to different organizations. The more accurate our attendance count, the better equipped we are to refine challenges to be most enjoyable and impactful.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary by event. Please reference the events page specific to the race of interest to you, and you will find registration and pricing details.

WHAT IF I CAN't AFFORD THE RACE REGISTRATION FEE?

Individuals or families with significant financial limitations or constraints should email us to inquire about 'scholarship' opportunities.

Can I register on the day of an event?

Depends. In most cases, yes. However, please be aware that spaces are limited, race swag is not guaranteed to late registrants, and we accept cash only for day-of registrations. Also, we work hard to ensure that the challenges within the race are specifically catered to best serve local nonprofits. Having an accurate tally of the number of race participants in advance helps us to create challenges that are most enjoyable and impactful. If you plan on coming, please try to register in advance.

How long does the race last?

The duration of the race may vary greatly from race to race. Generally speaking though, races last an average of four or five hours.

Are races cancelled due to bad weather?

Rain or shine, we do our best to make sure that the race happens regardless of weather. However, inclement weather may affect the ability to carry out certain challenges. When Mother Nature throws surprises our way, we adjust the race as needed and press on. Only if weather poses a threat to safety do we cancel, so participants should be ready for the elements.

What do I need to bring?

You're not required to bring anything, but the following items will make life easier for you as you complete the race: cell phone, camera, a few dollars for public transportation, comfy shoes, snacks and water.

Can we use a cell phone or internet to help solve clues?

Yes. Unless you're Ken Jennings, you'll likely need some help. A smartphone is an acceptable tool. Siri, Alexa, and Google are all on your team.

Are there specific things that we cannot use during the race?

Yes. You are not allowed to use personal automobile or taxi. In rare circumstances, challenges allow for the use of taxi or ride shares. However, typically all travel must take place by foot or on public transportation.

How much ground should I expect to cover?

Distances vary largely depending on the event. However, participants should expect to be on their feet for a substantial portion of the day, and will likely cover between two to five miles by foot during the race. That being said, the event is not a foot race. The intent of The City GRACE is to provide challenges that maximize where your energy gets spent. We want you to see the awe-inspiring parts of your city, but - rather than send your running aimlessly around town - we'd much rather challenge you to prep meals at a food kitchen, teach life skills at a community center, build a community garden for the local elementary school, and leave a lasting impact in your community. The ground you cover is intentional, and we believe that we strike a nice balance so that you can finish the race feeling accomplished and with the energy to properly enjoy the post-race celebration.

What if we get stumped by a clue?

Ask another team, make friends with a stranger, or call mom for some help. The goal of The City GRACE is to expose you to your community. That means means not only serving others while completing the challenges, but also utilizing your neighbors for help when you need it. A phone number will also be provided to you at the start of the race, so you have a lifeline if you really end up stuck.

Are there prizes for first place?

Prizes vary based on race, but generally the champions will receive an awesome swag bag, free food at the post-race celebration, and a donation (made in their name) to the charity of their choosing. Side bets among teams (loser buys tacos?) are highly encouraged.

What do we do after we finish?

Celebrate! With each race, we strive to partner with a fun local restaurant so that race participants can mingle with other teams after the race while enjoying discounted food and drinks. Once all the teams finish, we host an awards ceremony and crown the day's champions.

What types of organizations does the City GRACE partner with for races?

With each race, we aim to partner with local organizations and non-profits that are unique to that city and invested in their community. We have strived to partner with a wide range of entities including neighborhood associations, homeless and housing nonprofits, environmental advocacy groups, community gardens, youth organizations, and local jurisdictions. If there is a group, individual, or organization that wants to do good in their community, we want to be a part of it. We pride ourselves on coming up with creative tasks that our scavenger hunt participants can complete that support these groups and add value to the community.

Are you looking for new partnership?

Of course! We are always interested in learning about the great work that local groups and organizations are doing, and we would love to learn about the different ways that the City GRACE can support their missions. If you have recommendations for organizations, or represent a group interested in partnering with us, please reach out to us via the contact us form or send an email directly to hello@thecitygrace.com.

How do I get more details about the community groups that I served with during a race?

Following each race, we distribute an email to recap the different non-profits and community organizations that we partnered with for the event. The hope of the City GRACE is not only to provide a fun single day event, but to foster increased awareness and involvement in the amazing groups active in their cities. As such, we encourage former City GRACE participants and community groups to develop lasting partnerships when appropriate. If there are ways we can help foster these relationships (beyond the detailed follow-up emails), please reach out to us via the contact us form or send an email to hello@thecitygrace.com.
